The Kia Telluride has quickly become a leading choice in the crowded three-row SUV market since its 2020 debut. Now, for the 2027 model year, Kia is launching a significant redesign that builds on its success with bolder styling, a more refined interior, and—crucially—new hybrid powertrain options.
A Rugged New Look
The new Telluride adopts a more aggressive and outdoorsy aesthetic. The front grille is now noticeably taller and wider, varying in finish between trims. The SXP features a gloss-black vertical slat design, while the XRT boasts a black mesh pattern extending to the bumper. Sharp body creases and a broader hood create a more sculpted silhouette, with hints of design cues from luxury competitors like the Range Rover. Headlights and taillights now feature a vertical layout, and new eight-spoke wheel designs are available, with the X-Pro trim adding bright orange recovery hooks for off-road capability.
Increased Dimensions, More Space
The 2027 Telluride is larger than its predecessor, with a 2.7-inch longer wheelbase (now 116.9 inches) and an overall length increased by 2.3 inches to 199.2 inches. This translates into more passenger and cargo space: 22.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 46.3 cubic feet with the third row folded, and 86.9 cubic feet with all rear seats down. This expansion is significant because family SUVs live and die by interior volume : the Telluride’s update directly addresses a key consumer need.
Redesigned Interior and Tech
Inside, the Telluride receives a dual 12.3-inch display spanning the dashboard, running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Premium materials such as real wood and metal accents enhance the cabin, with new two-tone leather seat options and color schemes like Deep Navy and Blackberry. The interior refresh is more than cosmetic; Kia is responding to the growing trend of upscale interiors in mainstream SUVs, which is a key driver of consumer choice.
New Hybrid Powertrains
Kia has replaced the previous V-6 engine with two new options: a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a hybrid powertrain. The standard engine produces 274 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid combines the 2.5-liter engine with a 1.65 kWh battery, delivering a combined 329 hp and 339 lb-ft. The hybrid achieves up to 35 mpg and an estimated range of 600 miles, making it a competitive option in the fuel-efficient SUV category.
The shift to hybrid options is a direct response to increasing fuel efficiency standards and consumer demand for greener vehicles. This move positions the Telluride to compete more effectively against rivals offering hybrid and electric SUVs.
Pricing and Availability
Pricing remains unannounced, but is expected to start just under $40,000, a modest increase over the current model. The 2027 Kia Telluride is expected to arrive in showrooms soon.
The redesigned Telluride represents a strategic evolution of a proven platform, addressing key consumer demands for space, style, and fuel efficiency. It’s a clear signal that Kia intends to maintain its competitive edge in the three-row SUV segment.
