Cupra is set to unveil a significantly updated version of its Born electric vehicle (EV) on March 5, 2026, bringing it in line with the brand’s latest design language and promising improvements to both interior quality and onboard technology. The update comes after previews leaked internally in 2022, suggesting a long-planned refresh for the compact EV.
New Design Language and Tech Upgrades
The revised Born will feature the brand’s signature “Shark Nose” front end, complete with tri-triangular LED running lights, and a full-width LED tail light bar with an illuminated Cupra logo. This aligns the Born visually with other recent Cupra models like the Tavascan, Terramar, and updated Formentor. Inside, Cupra is promising a more upscale cabin experience with improved trim materials and potentially enhanced technology, though specific performance or range upgrades remain unconfirmed.
Australia’s Delayed Rollout
The new Born’s arrival in Australia is uncertain, as Cupra has repeatedly delayed the release of the high-performance VZ variant. The brand now appears to be waiting for the facelifted model to relaunch the Born nameplate Down Under, with the VZ version leading the charge. The original Born offered two battery and motor options, with a maximum WLTP range exceeding 550km. The latest iteration may see battery capacity increase to 79kWh and outputs for the VZ version reaching 240kW and 545Nm for a 0-100km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds.
Sales Growth and Future Plans
Cupra has seen strong growth in Australia, surpassing 10,000 cumulative deliveries with a 21% increase in registrations during 2025. The Tavascan and Terramar SUVs drove much of this growth, while the Formentor remains a core seller. The brand plans to expand its lineup further, with the facelifted Formentor arriving soon, followed by the Leon Ve plug-in hybrid and the high-performance Leon Sportstourer wagon.
The Raval and the Affordable EV Market
The all-new Raval baby EV hatchback is also on the horizon, marking VW Group’s entry into the more affordable end of the EV market. Cupra Australia has expressed interest in this model, with a likely launch in 2027. The move signals a broader push to capture a larger share of the EV segment, as the brand continues to gain traction in key markets.
The upcoming reveal will provide full details on the updated Born, but the changes suggest a significant step forward in design, quality, and potentially performance for Cupra’s electric offering.
