Huawei, in partnership with Chery through their Luxeed joint venture, is set to launch the first mass-produced vehicle equipped with integrated helmet airbags. The Luxeed V9 minivan, slated for release in the domestic market in spring 2026, will feature this advanced safety technology as a flagship offering.
Luxeed: A Rising Force in the EV Market
Launched in 2023 as part of the HIMA alliance, Luxeed has quickly established itself as a player in the electric vehicle sector. The brand currently offers the S7 sedan and R7 SUV, both available in battery electric (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations. By November 2025, Luxeed had already delivered 81,391 units, demonstrating strong initial market demand. The V9 represents the next step in the brand’s technical evolution.
Introducing the Helmet Airbag System
The key innovation in the V9 is the industry-first helmet airbag integrated into the seats. According to reports, this system will automatically adjust seat positions during a collision while simultaneously deploying the helmet airbag alongside traditional side airbags. The technology originated with Yanfeng Automotive Interior Systems in 2023, a major supplier to automakers like Volkswagen, GM, Toyota, and BYD.
How the Technology Works
Yanfeng’s seat design incorporates several safety features. The seats can quickly return to an upright position before impact, triggered by signals from the vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). It also includes a pre-embedded airbag designed to reduce occupant forward momentum during a crash, mitigating lumbar injuries. The seat has an integrated seatbelt system, further enhancing safety.
Luxeed V9 Specs and Highlights
The Luxeed V9 will be built on Chery’s E0X modular platform, which also underpins other models like the Exlantix ET and ES. The minivan boasts a stretched wheelbase and a length exceeding 5.3 meters, promising ample interior space.
Beyond the helmet airbags, the V9 will feature:
- Huawei-developed powertrain and headlights: Ensuring cutting-edge performance and visibility.
- Large passenger screens and a built-in refrigerator: Enhancing comfort and convenience.
- An oxygen concentrator: A unique feature for passenger well-being.
- 192-line LiDAR: Providing advanced autonomous driving capabilities.
- Independent second-row seats with zero-gravity function: Maximizing passenger comfort.
- An electric pop-up and soft-close front trunk: Adding convenience and a premium feel.
The V9’s integration of these features positions it as a leader in automotive safety, comfort, and technology.
The Luxeed V9 is not just another minivan; it represents a significant advancement in automotive safety. The helmet airbag, combined with the vehicle’s other innovations, sets a new standard for passenger protection and positions Luxeed as a key innovator in the rapidly evolving EV market.
