Lotus Emira Scura: A Darker Take on the Sports Car

Lotus has released a limited-edition version of its Emira sports car, dubbed the “Scura,” meaning “darkness” in Italian. This exclusive model, restricted to just 60 units for North America, is primarily an aesthetic upgrade, leaning heavily into a gothic-inspired design.

What Makes the Scura Special?

The Scura is not about performance enhancements; rather, it’s an appearance package built upon the standard Emira chassis. Key features include:

  • Matte Satin Nebulous Grey Paint: The car’s body is finished in a distinctive matte grey.
  • Blacked-Out Trim: Roof, wheels, and exterior accents are all finished in gloss black.
  • Red Accents: Brake calipers and interior stitching provide a striking contrast.
  • Exclusive Badging: “Scura” branding appears both inside and outside the vehicle.
  • Privacy Glass: Tinted windows add to the dark aesthetic.

The interior receives substantial Alcantara trim with red stitching, alongside a red steering wheel and seatbelts, further emphasizing the car’s aggressive, shadowy theme.

A Nod to Lotus History

The Scura name is a deliberate throwback to the 2009 Exige Scura, another limited-run Lotus model known for its matte black finish and dark aesthetic. This suggests a deliberate effort to appeal to Lotus enthusiasts who appreciate the brand’s heritage.

Engine Options and Availability

Lotus has not yet specified whether the Scura will be offered with both the V6 and turbocharged four-cylinder engine options available in the standard Emira. The standard V6, paired with a manual transmission, remains the enthusiast’s choice. Production has already begun; interested buyers are encouraged to place their orders promptly.

The Emira Scura is a testament to Lotus’ ability to create desirable, limited-edition models that cater to a specific niche. While it doesn’t add any mechanical upgrades, the Scura’s striking appearance ensures it will stand out among other sports cars.
