Mazda is re-entering the mid-size market with an all-electric fastback, the 6e, set to rival the Tesla Model 3. The vehicle will arrive in UK showrooms this summer, starting at £38,995, and offers up to 348 miles of range. Unlike European and Chinese markets, the UK will receive only the higher-spec Takumi and Takumi Plus trims. Mazda claims this setup offers the “best of both worlds” in range, performance, and charging times.

Charging and Performance

The 6e supports rapid DC charging at up to 195kW, allowing for a 10-80% charge in just 24 minutes. Standard features include a heat pump, dual-zone climate control, a head-up display, and powered front seats. The Takumi Plus trim adds premium touches like nappa leather, a panoramic glass roof, and titanium detailing.

Design and Interior

The 6e showcases Mazda’s evolving Kodo design language with a low roofline, frameless doors, and distinctive LED lighting. The lights, described as ‘wings’, visually indicate battery charge level during charging. Inside, the 6e departs from traditional Mazda interiors by adopting a minimalist approach, featuring a large 14.6in central touchscreen for most vehicle functions.

The interior redesign marks a deliberate move towards catering to the preferences of the Chinese market, where the 6e was initially developed in partnership with Changan.
