Toyota Refreshes 2026 Corolla with New Finishes and Sustainable Materials

Toyota has announced updates for the 2026 Corolla model in Europe, focusing on aesthetic enhancements and interior sustainability rather than mechanical changes. The refresh introduces two new exterior color options—a striking matte Onyx Grey and a metallic Storm Grey—with the Onyx Grey marking the first time Toyota has offered this finish on a high-volume production vehicle.

Aesthetic Upgrades

The matte Onyx Grey finish is exclusive to the GR Sport and Touring Sports trims, offering a premium look previously unseen on mainstream Toyota models. The Storm Grey, available for both sedan and hatchback versions, provides a more conventional yet modern metallic option. These color updates aim to elevate the Corolla’s visual appeal in a competitive market.

Sustainable Interior Touches

Inside, Toyota has expanded the use of its durable Samara upholstery—made from recycled materials—to more trims, including the Mid grade and Touring Sports models. The Mid+ Sedan now features a unique Samara seat design. This expansion of recycled materials reflects Toyota’s growing commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices.

Powertrain Remains Consistent

The 2026 Corolla retains its existing hybrid powertrain options: a 1.8-liter engine producing 138 hp and a 2.0-liter engine delivering 178 hp. Interestingly, Toyota previously listed the 2.0-liter engine at 193 hp for the 2025 model year, but has not yet explained the 15-horsepower reduction. This discrepancy raises questions about potential tuning adjustments or reporting inaccuracies.

The 2026 Corolla refresh is a subtle but noticeable upgrade, prioritizing aesthetics and sustainability over substantial mechanical changes. These updates ensure the model remains competitive in a crowded segment while signaling Toyota’s focus on both style and environmental responsibility.
