The highly anticipated Volvo EX60 has been unexpectedly revealed in leaked images just days before its official debut. This all-electric SUV, positioned as the replacement for the popular XC60, boasts a sleek new design and cutting-edge technology, setting it up to compete directly with rivals like the BMW iX3 and Mercedes GLC.
Redesigned Exterior & Next-Gen Features
Leaked from an internal video, the EX60 showcases a striking front-end design with split headlights. Thin upper LEDs serve as daytime running lights, while the main headlights are positioned below. The car also features flush door handles—electronic releases that pop the doors open when pressed, a detail expected to appear on future BMW and Audi models.
The EX60 is built on Volvo’s next-generation SPA3 platform, improving upon the EX90’s full-size architecture. Cell-to-body technology integrates batteries directly into the chassis floor, reducing weight and maximizing interior space.
Impressive Range and Charging Capabilities
Volvo claims the all-wheel-drive EX60 will achieve a range of up to 502 miles on a single charge—slightly exceeding competitors like the BMW iX3 (500 miles) and Mercedes GLC (469 miles). The SUV supports up to 400kW DC fast charging, adding 210 miles of range in just ten minutes.
Advanced Safety and AI Integration
The EX60 introduces an “adaptive safety belt” system that adjusts pre-tensioner force based on crash severity and occupant data. It combines external sensors with driver profile information (height, weight, body shape) to optimize restraint force in various impact scenarios.
Volvo is also integrating Google’s Gemini AI assistant into the EX60, powered by the HuginCore system. This will deliver a more responsive infotainment experience, including natural voice assistance and over-the-air updates.
Interior and Design Details
While interior details remain limited, teaser images reveal a portrait-oriented central touchscreen. The EX60 retains similar proportions to the existing XC60, focusing on family-friendly space without offering a third-row option. Volvo has also previewed the rear lights, featuring slim elements with the brand’s signature “Volvo” script.
The EX60 represents Volvo’s aggressive push into the all-electric market. By combining long-range capability, futuristic technology, and an evolved design language, the SUV is poised to challenge established German competitors. Full specifications and pricing are expected to be announced shortly after the official reveal.
