Geely’s Zeekr has unveiled its 7GT electric vehicle in Europe, positioning it as a direct competitor to established models like the Volkswagen ID 7 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. The car is slated for a UK launch later this year and stands out primarily due to its significantly lower price point.
Positioning and Pricing
The Zeekr 7GT starts at €45,990 (approximately £40,000) and peaks at €57,490 (£50,000), undercutting key rivals by a considerable margin. This aggressive pricing strategy is common among emerging Chinese EV brands aiming to disrupt European markets.
Design and Engineering
While manufactured in China, the 7GT’s design was carried out in Europe, with engineering specifically tailored for European roads. The vehicle measures 4817mm in length, 2070mm in width, and 1456mm in height, making it comparable in size to other mainstream electric estates.
Performance and Battery Specs
The 7GT utilizes Geely’s PMA2+ platform and is available in three variants: Core (RWD), Long Range (RWD), and Privilege (AWD). Battery options include a 75kWh and a larger 100kWh pack, with the latter enabling a maximum range of 413 miles.
Fast Charging Capabilities
The car features an 800V architecture, allowing for extremely rapid charging. Zeekr claims a 10%-80% charge can be achieved in just 13 minutes using a 450kW charger. This is a key advantage, as fast charging infrastructure is growing but still limited.
Power and Acceleration
In its top-spec AWD configuration, the 7GT delivers 637bhp, enabling a 0-62mph sprint in just 3.3 seconds, with a maximum speed of 130mph. This performance level rivals premium electric vehicles.
The Zeekr 7GT represents a growing trend: Chinese EV manufacturers challenging established European brands with compelling combinations of price, performance, and technology. The car’s aggressive pricing and rapid charging capabilities could make it a serious contender in the competitive EV market.
