Korean automaker KGM (formerly SsangYong) is expanding its lineup with the Torres EVX, a new electric SUV designed to compete directly with popular models like the Tesla Model Y. The vehicle will arrive in Australian dealerships by the end of this month, with sales beginning December 1, 2025.
Pricing and Availability
The Torres EVX will be sold in a single trim level for a drive-away price of $58,000. This positions it $10,000 above the top-spec Torres Hybrid K40, though the EVX boasts more standard features, and $2,000 below the upcoming Musso EV. Notably, unlike the Musso EV, the Torres EVX will be available only in front-wheel drive configuration.
Performance and Charging
The vehicle utilizes a single-motor, front-wheel drive powertrain. KGM claims a fast charging time of 37 minutes to go from 10% to 80% on a 300kW DC charger. Using a slower 100kW charger takes roughly 42 minutes for the same charge level. A full charge via an 11kW AC charger will take approximately nine hours. The Torres EVX also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing users to power external devices.
Dimensions and Capabilities
The Torres EVX offers a maximum tow ball download of 150kg and a roof rail loading capacity of 100kg. These numbers suggest it’s designed more for urban and suburban use than heavy towing.
Warranty and Safety
KGM provides a comprehensive warranty package: seven years unlimited kilometers for the vehicle itself, and ten years unlimited kilometers specifically for the battery. As of now, the Torres EVX has not been tested by ANCAP, the Australian New Car Assessment Program. However, it comes standard with a suite of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and a surround-view camera.
Standard Features
The single trim level is well-equipped, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, a power sunroof, and a power tailgate. The interior includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leatherette upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Color Options
The Torres EVX will be offered with a black interior. The exterior comes standard in Grand White, with Space Black, Iron Metal, Latte Greige, and Forest Green available for an additional $700.
The KGM Torres EVX represents the brand’s first major push into the Australian EV market. With competitive pricing and a comprehensive feature set, it aims to carve out a niche among buyers looking for an alternative to established rivals.
