Fiat to Launch Ultra-Compact ‘Tris’ Electric Micro-Truck in the UK

Fiat is expanding its urban mobility lineup with the upcoming UK launch of the Tris, a tiny, three-wheeled electric micro-truck designed specifically for the challenges of city logistics. Scheduled to arrive in the UK mid-next year, the vehicle aims to tackle the “last-mile delivery” problem—the final, often most expensive and difficult leg of a product’s journey from a distribution center to a customer’s doorstep.

A Specialized Tool for Urban Logistics

The Tris is a compact electric pickup that draws inspiration from classic micro-mobility designs, such as the Piaggio Ape. It features a single front wheel and handlebar steering, making it exceptionally nimble in dense environments.

While the global version features open sides for rapid driver entry and exit, the UK model will be modified to meet local safety standards. According to Bradley Miller, Head of Product for Stellantis UK, the Tris will be equipped with full doors upon its UK release.

Key Specifications and Capabilities:

  • Versatile Configurations: The vehicle can be ordered as a chassis-cab, a flatbed, or a truck-bed. The truck-bed version offers a load area of up to 2.25m², which is roughly equivalent to the space required for two standard pallets.
  • Compact Dimensions: At just 3.17 meters long—over half a meter shorter than a Fiat 500—it boasts a tight 6.1m turning circle, ideal for narrow streets and tight corners.
  • Payload and Power: The Tris can carry a maximum payload of 540kg, powered by a 12bhp motor that reaches a top speed of 28mph.
  • Range: It is equipped with a 6.9kWh battery, providing a range of approximately 56 miles on a single charge.

Why This Matters: The Shift to Micro-Logistics

The introduction of the Tris highlights a growing trend in urban planning and commerce: the move toward micro-logistics. As cities implement stricter emissions zones and face increasing traffic congestion, traditional large delivery vans are becoming less efficient and more costly to operate.

By offering a vehicle with a top speed of 28mph, Fiat is targeting the specific speed limits of most UK city centers (typically 20–30mph). The Tris is not intended for highways, but rather as a highly specialized tool for navigating the “last mile” where agility and low environmental impact are more important than high-speed performance.

Market Expansion

Originally manufactured in Morocco, the Tris was initially slated for markets in Asia and the Middle East. Its debut at the UK Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham signals Fiat’s intent to tap into the European demand for sustainable, small-scale commercial transport.

“Tris is a smart, forward-thinking answer to the growing demand for efficient last-mile delivery,” says Kris Cholmondley of Fiat Professional CV UK. “It combines practicality, sustainability, and versatility in a format designed entirely around urban environments.”

The Tris represents a strategic move by Fiat to provide a niche, electric solution for urban couriers looking to navigate congested city streets with minimal footprint and maximum efficiency.
